Getting off that Hesitation Station + kickstarting the book ideation process
Taking the first step, sharing the journey, and embracing the messy process of writing the next book
Every day this year, the thought, "I really need to start working on that next book," has crossed my mind.
Earlier this week, during a workshop, I shared a concept called the Hesitation Station, and it hit me—I’ve been stuck there way too long.
So, it's time to take my advice, keep it simple, and just start.
Here's how I've showed up at the start line today:
Shared a post on IG with a poll to see which ideas or concepts resonate (image below). I’ll repurpose this for LinkedIn, too.
Bought leannesnextbook.com. I figure this will be an evergreen domain since I plan to keep writing, and there will always be a "next" one!
Created this Substack to document the process. It’s way too easy to gloss over everything once the book is done and say, “Oh yeah, these were the top 2-3 things that mattered,” but the truth is, we often forget the micro-decisions and tiny tasks that create the final result.
Thanks for being here! Follow along if you’re an aspiring author, curious about the process, or would love to be a part of it.

Here for this! Always love walking alongside someone as they build something. It's also challenging me on figuring out "what's the next step" for some of the things I'm procrastinating on!
Can't wait to see how this evolves and definitely using you as motivation for my writing process:)
